Encinitas

A San Diego coffee legend housed in a historic 1887 train station. Pannikin has been roasting their own beans since 1968, offering a truly authentic local coffee experience.

Pannikin is a San Diego County institution. While technically in neighboring Encinitas, it’s such an essential part of the local coffee scene that no guide would be complete without it. Housed in a historic 1887 Santa Fe Railroad depot, Pannikin has been roasting their own beans since 1968.

The Coffee

As one of the original specialty coffee roasters in San Diego, Pannikin knows what they’re doing. They roast their own beans and have refined their craft over more than 50 years. Expect expertly roasted coffee with character and depth.

The Setting

The bright yellow historic train station is reason enough to visit. The character and charm of the building, combined with the lush patio area, creates an atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else. It’s a piece of local history that happens to serve excellent coffee.

Why It Matters

Pannikin was doing specialty coffee before it was trendy. Their commitment to quality and their role in shaping San Diego’s coffee culture makes them an important stop for any serious coffee lover in the area.
